Christmas is most definitely the time for giving and the greatest thing that you could possibly give someone is your time, anything else is just a bonus. Making someone else smile this Christmas is something that truly does make me so happy. Giving back to others makes you feel so good and fuzzy inside. You dont have to just buy presents to make someone smile- money and gifts arent everything! The small things what people do for you are what means the most. So, if you want to help others this Christmas, I have put together a list of a few things you could do to make someone smile or just make their Christmas a little easier for them!
The elderly in your community can struggle significantly in the
winter months, so it is important that they know that there is help if
they need it. One thing you could offer to do is to either take them
shopping, or fetch some shopping for them, I am sure many would be very
appreciative of this.
I am sure that everyone has been Christmas shopping (or shopping in general) and have seen homeless people sat at the side of the streets, right? If you have a bit of spare change, I am sure you could make their day by giving them a bit. What seems like nothing to you, could well be a lot to them. Instead, you could buy them a bit of food. Food like greggs is cheap, cheerful and warm, which I am sure would make their day. Many homeless people say that people just walk past, ignore them and treat them as though they are not human. If you can spare 5/10 minutes from your day, ask them how they are, ask them their story. I am sure it gets pretty lonely and I bet they would love someone to talk to. The winter weather is hitting us hard right now, so whilst we sit in our homes infront of a nice roaring fire, it is important to remember that there are people out there who dont have a home to go back to. I am sure that if you can afford, they would love an extra blanket or something!
Hugs make everything better, right? This Christmas, give hugs- and lots of them! It is incredible how much better you can make someone feel by just giving them a hug. The Christmas period can be stressful for us all, so a hug would be great! Even strangers, if you are brave enough, offer free hugs, it could make someones day- you never know what someone is going through.
Random acts of kindness are a great way to help others and make them smile this Christmas. You can do random acts of kindness to anyone and everyone. For example, you could write out Christmas cards for your whole street, even if you dont know them, you could invite a neighbour around for tea, you could send a care package to someone, leave money in a vending machine for someone, give someone a compliment, buy flowers to hand out to people in the street, leave letters of encouragement on someones car and so much more!
I am sure there are many, many more ways to help people this Christmas, you just have to get a bit creative. Give one or two of these a go and make some up of your own! It is nice to be nice. Spread kindness this Christmas.
